Mercedes Vito vs LTI TX4

Today at City Hall LTI launched the prototype hydrogen powered TX4 Taxi. It has a top speed of 80.7 mph and a range of 248.5 miles. It will emit zero emissions and small fleet of 20 of these vehicles are expected to hit the streets of London in 2012, probably around the time of the Olympics.

This vehicle is going to have to be very good to compete with the Mercedes Vito Electric Taxi, which is also under development. The Vito Taxi which is very popular with both the general public and London cab drivers is currently taking a whopping 34% of the market share of new taxis sold in London. It is proving to be a massive success story. I actually own a Vito Taxi and have recently driven the Vito electric prototype and let me tell you its all round design and performance is very impressive indeed.

Sadly I think the design of the TX4 will be the deciding factor that will let the LTI vehicle down. However, a race for the two manufacturers to produce a fleet of these vehicles in time for the Olympics will make a great advertisement for the Olympics, the London cab trade and both of the manufacturers. Let the race begin!

  1. It’s a no brainer when it comes to choosing between a Vito and a TX4. The design of the TX4 is bad for you health and anyone over 4’9″ will over time develop hip, neck and back problems. Forget about the conditions of fitness, this vehicle conforms solely for the passengers requirements. In theory it should be discontinued and condemned on the grounds of putting the drivers health at risk. But then again its always been the policy of LTI to put the driver last and come to that, who cares about our health and safety, not LTI !!

    • The Tx4 will sell if the price is right. It’ll even sell if the price is wrong. As long as there is a cab driver with a badge round his neck there will be a buyer for the junk that LTI turn out, Theres one born every minute and LTI know it.

  2. Hydrogen?

Where do you fill it up?

    Batterys?

When one does 250 in a charge, and costs under £2K for a new battery when it’s exhausted, then I’ll buy one.

    2025 or thereabouts.

  3. what about a lovely grey mare hansom cab?
no emissions ( except a bit of manure ) no mot, no SGS just a visit to
    the vets once a year….?

  4. I love the shape of the TX4 but my mate who has a vito absolutely loves the thing.
Loads of work, customers asking for his number, blimey, In this day and age any thing that puts fares on seats must be a plus….decisions decisions.
